Karpuram (Camphor) is a white, crystalline, highly aromatic substance derived from the bark and wood of the Cinnamomum camphora tree or synthesized from turpentine. It is widely used in spiritual rituals (puja), aromatherapy, and traditional medicine due to its antiseptic, analgesic, and cooling properties. Natural edible camphor (Pacha Karpuram) is also used in small amounts for flavoring traditional sweets.
